2011 Video Room Suggestions [Feb. 7th, 2011|06:42 pm]
FenCon: A Dallas-based SF/Fantasy Convention

Hey everyone, this Jay Epps, I'm in charge of Fencon's video room and I'm looking for ideas for what to show this year. I've already gotten a
few suggestions from the staff, but I would like to hear as many suggestions as possible.

  • half hour or hour long shows are more likely to find a slot than
feature length movies. During the day, we want to give the attendees
something to fill up that hour in between panels. The feature length
movies we will screen are probably going to be shown either at the
beginning or end of the day.

  • we also have to keep it family friendly. So nothing above PG 13
during the day, and nothing above an R rating in the evening

  • we want things that have some relevance to science fiction, fantasy,
horror, or geek culture in general.

  • I must admit a favoritism towards older TV shows, especially stuff
that most people probably haven't seen since it's original air dates

  • fan films, web originals, and other independent media are high on
    the consideration list.

The big thing is we want something different and unique in the video
room, not just what you can find at the Redbox or on reruns on Sci-Fi
Channel. If you have anything you want to throw out, feel free. I'm looking for
as many ideas as possible. I'd really love to see at least one or two
suggestions from everyone.

I recommend S2E6 of Castle, for one reason: Nathan Fillion as Rick Castle as Mal Reynolds the Space Cowboy, which is in the first 10 minutes of a 50ish minute show. It's a great episode, and I know a lot of Firefly fans who have really enjoyed Castle as a series. This is a good intro episode, as well - only one episode is more adult-oriented, and this one isn't that bad.

Of course, the vampire theme and Nathan Fillion are its only tie-ins to people's interests at this event, so understandable if it isn't what you're looking for.

ETA2: kd5mdkadds this episode, as well, which is the Steampunk episode.
